Kalarpana Institution

Kalarpana Institute

Ms. Shobana started teaching a small number of students in 1991.Today, The Kalarpana Institute trains more than 104 students in the classical art form of Bharatanatyam. Shobana at Kalarpana, has a team of staff that are trained directly under her to impart the foundation of the dance technique.

The classes are conducted throughout the week in the evenings for younger children, during the mornings, Shobana trains the staff as well works with the productions and performances. Walking on the footsteps of the Guru, some of the senior disciples have branched out into independent performers and teachers.

  • The students are taught music appreciation and theory without which a dancer is incomplete and the dance, lacking in soul.
  • There is an equal amount of stress on the graceful aspect of Bharatanatyam as there is on the rhythmic patterns. The children are encouraged to watch and perform at various levels.
Ms. Shobana’s wholistic approach towards Bharatanatyam sustains the integrity of the classical art form as well as adapting to the demands of the present times. Kalarpana- A cultural centre with a difference and infinite possibilities, with a difference because it has been conceived, created and developed to be an all encompassing center for learning, experimenting, teaching, exhibiting and spreading the art of ‘Classical Bharat Natyam’.
